St Catherine’s official feast day is 29 April, and the Sienese pay homage to their hometown girl this day, ovviamente. But on 4 May, the Contrade will process will depart from the Palazzo Pubblico to reach the Santuario-Casa di Santa Caterina, where the Municipalities of L’Aquila and Murlo will offer oil for the votive lamp. This will be followed by the donation of candles by various local associations. The celebrations will conclude with a solemn mass in the Basilica of San Domenico presided over by Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio, assisted by the Archbishop of Siena, Cardinal Lojudice, and Monsignor D’Angelo.
